LAHORE: Hearing of the graft cases against former prime minister Nawaz Shari and his family resumed on Tuesday.
Several PML-N leaders including Marriyum Aurangzeb, Talal Chaudhry, and Pervez Rashid reached the court before Nawaz Sharif.
Judge Mohammad Bashir resumed the hearing shortly.
The proceedings started with the recording of statement of NAB official Nasir Janjua who is a witness in the Flagship reference. After recording his statement, Janjua was cross-examined by Khawaja Harris, Nawaz’s counsel.
Later, NAB’s Umar Draz Gondal recorded his statement and was then cross-examined by Harris.
The case was then adjourned until January 23, when three more witnesses have been summoned.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed three references against Nawaz and his family in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.
The three references include the London flats, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd.
In the last hearing, the court recorded the statement of Sidra Mansoor, a senior official of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, in the Al Azizia reference. Also, she was cross-examined by Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Harris.
She presented record of Hussain Nawaz’s company Mehran Ramzan Textile Mills.
The Supreme Court has granted six months to the accountability court for the completion of its inquiry and submission of the report. The deadline will end within a few weeks.
