ISLAMABAD: Disqualified Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) leader Daniyal Aziz on Thursday announced that his father will be contesting polls on his behalf in the upcoming general elections.
Earlier today the Supreme court (SC) held the former privatization minister in contempt, sentencing him a symbolic disqualification till rising of the court. However Aziz has been disqualified for the next five years, unable to hold any public office or contest elections in the upcoming elections.
Aziz while addressing the media outside the SC remarked that “We had prepared for a SC verdict disqualifying me”.
He added that his father has submitted nomination papers and will be contesting elections on his behalf from NA-77 Narowal-I constituency.
Former minister urged his constituents to remain calm over the SC’s verdict, assuring them that no one from his family was not involved in any corruption nor will he let his family be tainted by such charges.
Aziz asserted that there were no corruption charges against him nor was he or his party involved in contempt of court.
He added that PML-N has always respected the judiciary and its decisions.
Aziz claimed that his party has always worked towards strengthening of state institutions.
The former minister went on explaining that he was indicted under three charges, out of which the first one dated back to a year.
He stated “I was exonerated in the first charge. The sole witness told the court that I did not use the words that I had been accused of using”.
Aziz added that the second charge was based on a private channel news report, which his counsel had requested to specify the charge against him.
He asserted that the news channel had recieved the video from a third source thus when it was played the underlined party had been beeped out.
Aziz stated that he will take up the legal proceedings once he reads the court’s verdict.
